Game 3 vs. Hillside

Our old nemesis, Hillside, came calling last night (we always seem to play these guys tougher than we need to), but we beat them 12-9 for our 2nd victory of the season. Playing with a short staff (only 12 players instead of our usual 17) and in the wee hours of the night (9:30 pm start time) we jumped ahead early and never looked back. Bryan Lehman started off the game with a triple followed by a double by Sally Gregoire (one of our "ringers") which was followed by the first of Josh Mangan's 3 home runs on the night (one of them was an inside-the-parker), he also had 6 RBI's and pitched a great game. Not to be outdone by Josh, Ryan Fisher hit 2 inside-the-park home runs. Lauren Lehman had a single and a run, and Kelsey Johnson had her first hit of her young, promising career, she also scored a run.

It was a good all around team victory and a lot of fun. We play again on Thursday night....

Game 2 vs. Kemet

After dropping the opener, JD looked to bounce back against their latest opponent and former client Kemet.

Bryan Lehman hit the first pitch of the game for a double, then scored on a Kevin Johnson single. Jen Sutton and Victor Angon both knocked in runs in the first inning as well. After going out quietly in the 2nd inning, JD picked up in the 3rd inning with a 5 run outburst. Bryan Lehman hit a home run, Kevin Johnson hit another single then scored on Victor's 3 run home run to cap a 5 run 3rd inning. From there JD never looked back, scoring 7 more runs over the next 2 innings to take a 15-7 victory.

Gordon Lake pitched a perfect inning of relief, scored a run and had an RBI. Jen Sutton was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's. Josh Mangan hit his first home run of the year (a 2 run shot in the 4th that sealed the win).

Season Opener

After a 1 month hiatus enjoying the our Spring Co-Ed championship, JD softball was back on the field with our summer season opener. We started slow, getting only 1 hit in the first 3 innings. Finally, in the 4th inning, trailing 5-0, Gordon Lake got a single then scored when Bryan Lehman hit his first of 2 home runs on the night, bringing JD within 3 runs. The runs kept coming, JD scored 2 more in the 6th (thanks to a Ryan Fisher 2-run inside-the-park home run) to bring the score to 7-5. In the 7th JD scored 2 runs quickly but left the winning runs on base for a final of 8-7.

Losing the first game of the season is rough, but I'm happy to see that we never gave up. We'll get them next week.
